Health Visiting & Schools Nursing Service (NHS Western Isles)

The Health Visiting team works in the community setting and visits parents or carers with new babies and young children under 5 years. A programme of standard visits is offered to all families. The aim of the service is to offer advice and support on many health and wellbeing topics including safeguarding.

The Schools Nursing team works across education and health settings. Their aim is improve the health and wellbeing of children and young people aged 5–19 years by providing advice/guidance on a range of issues which includes safeguarding.

We offer:


  • specialist up to date advice

  • information, support and advice on a wide range of topics

  • education and promotion of babyhood, toddlerhood, childhood and adolescence.

Our teams are based in Stornoway (Lewis & Harris) and in Balivanich (Uists & Barra), covering the Western Isles. As well as home visits, clinics are also offered at:
